Our sustainability plan

Birchwood Knight is proud to have joined the SME Climate Hub and signed up to the SME Climate Commitment. We pledge to halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 in our journey as a business towards achieving net zero before 2050.

The SME Climate Hub is an initiative founded by the International Chamber of Commerce, the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, the We Mean Business coalition, and the UNFCCC Race to Zero campaign. It aims to support small and medium-sized businesses to build business resilience in tackling the climate crisis.

Birchwood Knight recognises our stake and role in the race to zero. As an SME, offsetting our carbon emissions and building resilience is critical to our long-term objectives. Birchwood Knight employees have an individual and collective responsibility to consider the environmental impact of our work.

The SME Climate Hub provides any business with less than 500 employees with the opportunity to publicly demonstrate its commitment to climate action by signing the SME Climate Commitment. Signing up to the commitment means that we will start to take immediate action in order to:

–        Halve greenhouse gas emissions before 2030

–        Achieve net zero emissions before 2050

–        Disclose our progress on a yearly basis

In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, universities, regions, and cities around the world with the same mission.

Alongside our commitment to reducing emissions, we have offset our annual carbon emissions with immediate effect using the UN Approved My Carbon Plan project. The only not-for-profit initiative dedicated to carbon offsetting in the UK, which plants trees in line with seven of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We are excited to have begun our sustainability journey, and we encourage other SMEs to take the necessary steps towards collectively achieving the bigger goal of tackling climate change.
