As the year draws to a close, Birchwood Knight want to congratulate everyone who embarked on a new role this year. We have high hopes for 2024, and if the last three months of career moves is anything to go by, we think it will be another strong year for the jobs market.

Barry Neville joined KPMG UK as their new Director of Communications reporting into Rachel Hopcroft, Partner and Corporate Affairs Director. Barry previously worked at Standard Chartered for four years, and before this held notable roles such as Global Head of Corporate Campaigns at HSBC, Director of Public Affairs at Centrica and Group Director of Policy, Public and Industry Affairs at SABMiller.

Edward Walsh also embarked on a new challenge last month, joining Richemont as Director of Global Corporate Communications. Edward joins after nine years at Philips, and he has previously worked at organisations such as APCO worldwide, IBM and Mandriva.

After ten years at Shell, Anna Haslam has joined BAE Systems as their new Strategic Communications Director. Before her time at Shell, Anna spent over 12 years in agencies including Fishburn Hedges and Nelson Bostock.

Primark have found a new Corporate Affairs Director in Lee Andrews, who joined the company in October. Lee began his career with Mars, where he worked for over twenty years before joining Element Materials Technology as their Group Director, Corporate Affairs and ESG.

Will Sherlock joined M&G plc as their new Head of External Relations. This move comes after five years at Direct Line Group, where Will’s most recent role was the Group Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director.

In November, Thames Water gained a Director of Communications in Caroline Murdoch. Caroline joins from Motability Operations Ltd where she was the Director of Corporate Affairs. She has also led communications for Network Rail, National Crime Agency and Transport for London during her career.

Across the water, Donna Lorenson announced her new role as Chief Communications Officer at AB InBev based in New York. Donna leaves her role as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Kenvue, the consumer healthcare company.

Eleanor Orebi Gann announced a few months back that she would be leaving her role as Director of Corporate Affairs UKI and EMEA at Experian to join Hiscox as their Group Communications Director.
